Equipple | Starting the New Academic Year: An Honest Teacher’s Opinion

As the new academic year begins, I know many teachers are filled with excitement and anticipation for the months ahead. However, teachers are also acutely aware of the challenges coming their way, particularly when it comes to managing time and maintaining high standards in the classroom. Throughout my entire career in teaching I’ve always been on the lookout for ways to improve my practice, get the most out of my students and improve the quality of what my school can provide to each and every pupil that walks through the door. One big frustration of mine was always how inefficient, clunky and disconnected many of our systems in education can be. I was convinced that there had to be more efficient ways to things. That search for improvement ultimately led me on the journey to design Equipple. It’s an app that saved me over 2 days of teaching time last year alone and also improved the quality of the feedback that I was able to provide for my pupils. For me though, as a former senior teacher in a large school, the time that teachers spend preparing for this communication with parents is disproportionate. Traditionally, organising parent-teacher meetings has been a logistical nightmare with coordinating schedules, analysing data and preparing discussion points all taking up a significant amount of time and energy. This is time that I have always felt could be better spent on lesson planning, marking or one-on-one student support.
